Something Sacred In The Seasons

Last week I was listening to Christy Wright's Business Boutique podcast. If you don't listen to it, you should! Even if you don't have a business, it has some really great life lessons and inspiration. This particular episode (ep. 70, I believe) was talking about the seasons of life and I wanted to share what I got from it with you guys because I thought it was had some pretty great life inspiration. I hope that this is helpful to you in whatever stage of life you are in at this point.

"There is something sacred in the seasons".

Isn't that the truth? Do you get that or nah? A lot of the time we pass each day by just wishing for the next one. Like right now... I didn't get much more than an hour of sleep combined the other night. I'm not sure if Aspen had gas or what... but some nights she just has a rough time sleeping. She thinks it is more fun to scream at me. Everyone says "oh you'll miss it" blah blah blah. But I'm not there yet. ha! EVEN THOUGH I love the crap out of her.

There is also a thing such as more than one season at one time. You know? Like when it's winter in GA but feels like July in Africa? I think we have the same times in our life too. Sometimes we have more than one season going on, and a lot of the time we hide some of them. Which is ok. Not every season is meant to be lived publicly. BUT, please do know that you don't have to go through them alone.

In Christy's podcast she challenged her listeners to "find contentment in the now". Instead of looking ahead for the next thing in your life to happen, look for the good that you are currently presented with. Sometimes that may be something small. Sometimes it may be something REAL small. If you can't think of anything, try these things: Your health. Do you have health issues right now? You may be going through some painful things, but hey if you are healthy, that's one thing going for you! That's something that not everyone can say. And that's no small thing! What about pets? Do you have pets that you love? Family? Did you find an outfit that you look great in, and feel great in too? Sometimes it's the small victories that keep us going to the next thing. Lots of times these small victories turn into big victories, and that is a victory in itself.

"If you're not grateful for what you have been given, God isn't going to give you more to be ungrateful for." When Christy said that in this episode... wow! Isn't that the truth though? Why should we be given more, when we are not even grateful for what we have. Maybe you don't actually like what you have, but this is something we need to be grateful for because it is going to get us to that next season, and that could be your time to shine.

I feel like I always say thank you. Like to the point of annoyance. I am someone who is seriously truly thankful for any and everything that someone does for me. I will tell you thank you 100x and I'll mean it every single time! When someone spends their hard earned money on me... it's kind of unbelievable to me. Like wow that is so nice! You spend your time with me? Wow.. you could have been doing LITERALLY anything that you wanted... THANK YOU! You thought about me? Oh you so kind. But really. AND SO, all of that to say... sometimes I don't think about being thankful for the seasons that I go through. Anyone else? So I am going to work on that and remember that each one has gotten me to where I am now, and is getting me to where I am supposed to be. Life is funny that way... Changing before you even know it.

Lastly, I want to leave with you guys the 3 points Christy gave to help her listeners be thankful and/or content in the seasons.

Here they are:

1. Control your thoughts.

This one is tough. A lot of people pull out the ole "I can't" with this one. But you can! You have to think you can too. Just do it once, and then again, and again. soon it will become a habit. Focus on the positive things in your life. Think good things about yourself and about others.

2. Focus on what you already have.

Think about what you are blessed with and think about how much you love _________. (Your family, your kids, your job, your hobbies, etc.) You have blessings, so focus on those. Think about the good things in your life, and focus on the positive. These thoughts are helping get you to your next season, whether you feel it or not.

3. Write it down.

What are you thankful or grateful for? Don't just think about it. Write it down and see it. See these things that you have and can put on paper. When you write things down, sometimes they just pop out at you a little bit more. Write down your dreams too. Rachel Hollis talks about this in her books and she does it every morning. She has even made these "Start Today Journals" because she believes in writing out your dreams so much. I think it's great, and I want to start.

P.S. The cover photo of this blog was actually the photo that I took in Georgetown, CO that inspired Aspen's name. Just a fun fact. :)
